Living Shorelines

Natural erosion control (marsh plantings, sills and stone) that protects the bank and the bay.

A living shoreline uses marsh grass, sand and low stone sills to hold the bank in place the way nature does. Virginia encourages them where they fit, and they can be a great answer for lower-energy creeks and coves.

Living shorelines are designed site by site. Water depth, wave exposure and how much sun the bank gets all matter. We’ll look at the property and tell you honestly whether a living shoreline, rip-rap or a seawall is the better fit.

Amanda handles the permitting, which can be its own maze for work in and on the water.

“Richard and his crew have built me the very best Dock of my dreams, and it is the pride of our creek.”

  • Permits handled in-house. Amanda manages the paperwork for work in and on the water and keeps you updated.
  • Built from the barge. Materials come in by water, and the heavy equipment stays off your lawn.
  • Clear quotes, real timelines. You’ll know the plan, the price and the progress.

Will a living shoreline work on my property?

They work best on calmer creeks and coves. On exposed open-water shorelines, stone or a seawall may be needed. We’ll look at the site and give you a straight answer.
